BIIF water polo: Hawaii Prep continues surge at home pool

A little bit of a layoff from the water didn’t slow Hawaii Preparatory Academy from rolling at their home pool. Behind a nine-goal performance from Janelle Laros, Ka Makani knocked off Konawaena 16-2 on Wednesday afternoon to remain a perfect 4-0 in league play.

All of the team’s victories this season have come by double-digits.

At the end of the first quarter, the Wildcats trailed just 3-2 with goals from Bailey and Riley Walters. However, Ka Makani reeled off 13 unanswered goals to finish the contest.

Taylor Doherty added four goals, while Ava Jean Johnston, Kira Parker, and Angelique Allison each found a spot on the scoresheet as well.

Konawaena fell to 2-2 this season.

Kealakehe 13, Konawaena 5

In the second half of the pair of games in Waimea, Kealakehe (4-1) overwhelmed cross-town rival Konawaena.

The Waveriders raced out to a 6-2 halftime lead, and coasted to the victory thanks to a second half hat trick from Hannah Tomlinson. She had five goals total in the contest. Kealakehe also got a trio of goals Skyler Hudson and Chloe Smith.

Bailey Walters found the back of the net twice for Konawaena (2-3) and Jalen Gambee also had a pair.

Kamehameha 13, Waiakea 5

Across the island at Naeole Pool in Keaau, Kamehameha (5-1) gained momentum and bounced back from their only loss of the season thanks to a four goals from Aubrey Carter.

Four other Kamehameha players found the back of the net, including Lahela Rosario, who netted a hat trick.

All but one of Waiakea’s goals came in the fourth quarter. Ashley Rynkewicz scored twice for the public school Warriors.

Hilo 11, Keaau 4

The Vikings (1-4) used a balanced attack to swim by the winless first-year Cougars.

Hilo had seven different scorers in the victory to notch its first win of the season.

As Keaau (0-5) learns to finer points of the game, the team can find solace in a solid effort against the Viks.
