Boy Scout Kenneth Ikeda of Troop 19 earned the rank of Eagle Scout during a court of honor earlier this year.

Ikeda’s Eagle Scout project involved improvements to the Hawaii County Panaewa Rainforest Zoo and Garden’s educational building. Three newly constructed picnic tables replaced two insect-damaged tables and the six remaining tables were refurbished with a fresh coat of paint. The project also included pressure-washing of the building’s concrete floor.

Ikeda organized and led 49 Scout and adult volunteers in a project that encompassed 239 man-hours of labor.

Ikeda is a 2016 graduate of Waiakea High School. He is attending the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and majoring in computer engineering. He is the son of Dustin Kaneta and Jackie Ikeda of Hilo.

Troop 19 is sponsored by the Waiakea Lions Club and supported by the United Community Church. Glenn Sako serves as scoutmaster of the troop.
