Ohana Fun Run Saturday

The fifth annual Ohana Fun Run will be held Saturday at the Buddy Perry soccer fields at the Keaau Shipman Park.

Sponsored in part by the Puna Community Action Team Members, registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the run starts at 8:30 a.m.

This event is open for preschoolers and parents (400 meters), as well as elementary (800), middle (1 mile) and high school students (1 mile).

Participants must wear covered shoes and running attire and are asked to wear a school shirt and bring a water bottle.

A trophy will be given to the school that has the most participants.

Sunrise Athletics registration

Sunrise Athletics is accepting registration April 22 (or until the cap is reached) for its summer track and field program, which runs from May through July.

Waiakea swim team honored

The National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association again selected Waiakea’s boys and girls for scholar team awards (minimum of 12 swimmers must be above 3.2). The boys team earned a 3.51 and the girls achieved a 3.55.

Also, Kristi Hirata (3.84), Noah Kimura (3.76), Felix Peng (4.34), and Ben Poppas (4.17) secured Academic All-American honors.

Basketball camp slated

Led by UH-Hilo’s Randan Berinobis and former Vulcan Aukai Wong, a free advanced basketball development training program will be held at Kekuaokalani Gym from 9:30 a.m-12:30 p.m. Saturday and April 22.

Previous experience is preferred for ages 10-17.
