The Coast Guard needs help learning the owner of a red kayak found adrift Thursday.

The Coast Guard needs help learning the owner of a red kayak found adrift Thursday.

It was found at 6:50 a.m. about a mile off Airport Beach by the vessel Kamalami on the Big Island’s west side. Bait fish was aboard but no gear.

The word “tango” is displayed on each side of the boat.

Boat operators were issued an urgent notice and an air crew was dispatched to search from Barbers Point. But no one was found and there have been no persons reported missing or signs of distress. Big Island kayak companies report no kayaks out or missing.

Those with helpful information are asked to call 842-2600.

The Coast Guard offers free “If Found” decals for small crafts. They’re free at local harbormasters, Coast Guard Auxiliary, Honolulu Sail and Power Squadron offices and some marine stores.
