Call to artists: Imagine 2017: Fine Art Expo entry deadline is May 3

Hawaii Island Art Alliance invites all artists to submit work for Imagine 2017: Fine Art Expo, a new all-media juried exhibit June 2-28 at the Wailoa Center.

Entries must be submitted no later than midnight May 3 through an online submission process.

To enter, visit artcall.org and then to Imagine: 2017 Fine Art Expo located in the “open call for entry” page. Up to five submissions per artist are allowed. Jurying will take place May 7 and artists will be notified May 8. Accepted art will need to be brought to Wailoa Center from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. May 27.

Hawaii Island Art Alliance is offering a “help day” Wednesday for artists who need assistance with the submission process. Call Wailoa Center at 933-0416 by today to set up an appointment.

Imagine 2017 will open June 2 with a reception and awards ceremony from 5-8 p.m.

“This is one of the few opportunities this year for our local artists to participate in a multimedia juried exhibit that will deal with all forms of subject matter from abstract art to representational art, including sculpture to fine art craft objects,” said Wailoa Center coordinator Codie King. “This exhibit’s success will be up to the artist’s imagination and inspiration.

“We hope to make this exhibit an annual event for artists on the Big Island and possibly a future statewide exhibit. This first year will hopefully make a long-lasting impression.”

Jonathan Goebel and Lonny Tomono are the jurors for Imagine 2017: Fine Art Expo.

Goebel is an associate professor and master printer with the University of Hawaii at Hilo Art Department. His award-winning intaglio work can be viewed at www.jongoebel.com.

Tomono is known for his sculptural work that joins traditional Japanese woodcraft with the conceptual approach of contemporary art. He studied at UH-Hilo, the San Francisco Art Institute and San Jose State University.

Artwork in all mediums will be accepted if created in the past two years and has not been in a previous juried exhibit. Artwork must be framed or be ready to install. No giclees reproduction prints or enhanced giclees of original art will be accepted. Digital art and photographs are acceptable.

Entries will not be accepted if they do not meet these criteria or are deemed inappropriate for public view. Prizes will be awarded and will depend on sponsorship and funds available after expenses and reception costs.
