University of Hawaii at Hilo got good news as tuberculosis tests came back negative.
A person with infection TB recently exposed about 120 people on the UH-Hilo campus. That person was already treated and not infectious when university and state Department of Health officials announced the exposure.
“As we anticipated, all results came back negative,” said Farrah-Marie Gomes, vice chancellor of Student Affairs. “So that’s good news.”
DOH spokeswoman Janice Okubo said turnout was low for TB testing despite expediting the process to catch students before break.
End-of-semester priorities might have been why, she said, but tests for remaining individuals will be arranged before fall session.
