“We resist. We build. We rise.” is the theme for the Hawaii Climate March and Festival from 12:30-5 p.m. Saturday at the Mooheau Park bandstand in Hilo.
The public is invited to the daylong event.
“We are marching in support of indigenous rights, climate health and environmental restoration,” said Kaikea Blakemore, Hilo march organizer. “As an island nation, we recognize the importance of unifying our communities to support green technology, environmental protection and social justice.
“We hope to help people connect more deeply to their communities, to support creative ways to malama ‘aina for a more sustainable Hawaii and a more sustainable planet.”
People are encouraged to bring posters, participate in a march on Kamehameha Avenue, dance and share information. There will be seed exchanges, planting demonstrations and voter registration tables.
Activities begin with a pule and official opening remarks followed by the march at 1 p.m.
Entertainment includes music by DJs Kristian Fayette and Vixx Speakers, poetry and outreach, and live performances featuring Sahra Indio.
