The Alzheimer’s Association will present a series of informational workshops during three Saturdays in May at the Aging and Disability Resource Center in Hilo.
The workshops will be facilitated by Big Island program coordinator Chris Ridley. Seating for the workshops is limited.
The Aging and Disability Resource Center is located at 1055 Kinoole St.

1 p.m., “What Is Dementia?” a workshop that reviews dementia, the symptoms, warning signs, misconceptions, stages and potential treatments.
3 p.m., “Diminished Capacity.” This is a 2008 movie about a Chicago journalist suffering from memory loss who takes leave from his job and returns to his rural hometown, where he bonds with his Alzheimer’s-impaired uncle Rollie and his old flame.
5 p.m., “Living with Forgetfulness” (Part 1), for anyone who is forgetful and their significant others.
May 13
1 p.m., “Legal Aspects in Dementia,” information about advance directives, POLST, trusts, wills, Medicare, Medicaid, capacity and planning strategies.
3 p.m., “A Moment to Remember.” This is a 2004 Korean love story (with English subtitles) about a young couple’s enduring love, which is tested when 27-year-old Sun-Jin is diagnosed with a rare form of Alzheimer’s disease.
5 p.m., “Living with Forgetfulness” (Part 2).
May 20
1 p.m., “Communication and Behaviors in Dementia,” information about communication skills, possible causes and types of behaviors that might arise during the course of dementia. The focus helps the participants understand the communication problems and helps caregivers connect with the person.
3 p.m., “A Beautiful Life.” This is a 2011 Chinese romance film (with English subtitles) about a police officer who develops dementia and a woman who learns to provide care for him.
5 p.m., “Living with Forgetfulness” (Part 3).
