Trash is strewn across Highway 190 after a rubbish truck lost its breaks on Daniel K. Inouye Highway and slammed into the embankment, bursting into flames shortly before 3 p.m. Tuesday, according to authorities.

The crash caused widespread power outage and also affected telephone and internet services in West Hawaii.

The driver suffered minor injuries.

Power was promptly restored, but a Hawaiian Telcom spokeswoman said crews were scheduled be out all night working to fix them.
