Norman George Purves, 63, of Hilo died Jan. 18 at home. Born in St. Paul, Minn., and raised in Portland, Ore., he was a recently retired instructor of physics and astronomy at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, former tutor and former telescope operator at Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope.
