There was a rare occurrence halfway through last month’s American Round Tournament hosted by the Hawaii Island Archery Club at Hilo’s Malama Archery Range.
Jolene Iyo, one of the state’s best women archers, shot a “Robin Hood” at 50 yards. Competing in the female adult freestyle division, Iyo shot her first arrow directly in the center of the bull’s-eye, then her next arrow split the first arrow right down the middle.
HIAC’s Neil Wright thanked everyone who participated in the shoot, which took place in optimum conditions at the range. More than 35 archers competed in divisions ranging from master senior to peewees.
The tournament was made possible with support from sponsors JSO Archery Supplies and J Hara Store. Lunch was prepared by LaVanda Salas and James and Rosie Organ. The HIAC crew and volunteers helped set up breakdown targets. A shout-out also goes to members Dave Partlow and David Herring.
