The nonprofit Ku‘ikahi Mediation Center is hosting a free talk May 18 as part of its “Finding Solutions, Growing Peace” Brown Bag Lunch Series.
Talks are from noon-1 p.m. the third Thursday of each month in the county Office of the Prosecuting Attorney, 655 Kilauea Ave. in Hilo.
This month’s speaker is Susan Maddox on the topic “Patience, Persistence and Progress: Facilitating Community Capacity Conversations.”
“A good friend once said, ‘Working in community is messy,’ and she meant it in the best possible terms,” Maddox said. “It takes patience and persistence — while holding a safe space for all to contribute their deepest values and mana‘o — to make progress.”
In this talk, learn skills to facilitate community conversations creating shared vision and goals.
Maddox has served as executive team leader for Friends of the Future since 1996. Previously, she was executive director for Hawaii Kids at Work. In addition, she has served as a coach to emerging nonprofits and facilitator for Waipi‘o Community Circle. Maddox currently is the coordinator for the EnVision Maunakea process.
Ku‘ikahi’s Brown Bag Lunch Series is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lunch, enjoy an informal and educational talk-story session and meet others interested in “Finding Solutions, Growing Peace.”
