So it will go for a lucky few Saturday night at Titans of Fitness, a bodybuilding pro qualifier to be held at Grand Naniloa’s Crown room.
Brute Squad LLC is not only hosting a unique opportunity for competitors but also a night of fun for spectators, said the organization’s president, Garrett Hall.
This is the first Global Bodybuilding Organization sanctioned-event to be held in Hawaii, he said.
“We are going to be creating pro athletes,” said Hall, who is also a personal trainer at Penn Training and Fitness Center.
The majority of competitors are from the Big Island, including Layne Luna, one of the patriarchs of the local bodybuilding scene.
Divisions include men’s bodybuilding, classic bodybuilding and beach body, women’s classic bodybuilding, figure, beach body and teen beach body.
“This is not only a bodybuilding show, this is going to be a night of entertainment,” Hall said. “This is going to be the place to be in Hilo.”
Prejudging starts at 9 a.m., the doors to the final open at 5 p.m. and the show begins at 6 p.m., followed by an after-party.
Tickets are available at Penn Training and Fitness Center and at the door, if still available.
“It’s going to be a packed house,” Hall said.

Senior golf challenge
The Aloha Golf Challenge senior skills competition for ages 55 and older will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, June 10 at Hualalai Golf Course. The entry fee is $25 for the drive, chip and putt format and includes prizes and refreshments. Deadline is May 31.
Divisions: Based on Handicap Index: Makule (0.0 – 7.6), Kupuna (7.7 – 20.0), Wahine (0.0 – 40.0).

Waiakea girls volleyball
The Waiakea girls volleyball program has set its annual meet and greet potluck for all who are interested in participating in a voluntary summer open gym workout.
The potluck will be held Sunday, May 21 from non to 2 p.m. at the Waiakea High. There will be a pre-registration for a strengthening and conditioning program and weightlifting.
This is strictly voluntary, but all participants must have a current sports physical and fill out a registration form.
Incoming eighth graders are welcome to join the meet and greet potluck with their families. All eighth graders cannot start until their last day of school. For more information, call coach Rachelle Hanohano at 896-5051.
Mason volleyball camp
Former Rainbow Wahine and St. Joseph graduate Sarah Mason’s All American Volleyball Academy will hold camps at Christian Liberty Academy gym from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Mason, along with her brother Josh Mason, will run camps for high school girls May 31-June 2, high school boys June 14-16, and grades 5-8 for boys and girls June 21-23.

Junior Volleyball Camp June 5-8 at Hilo Civic
The Annual Summer Junior. Volleyball Camp, directed by Coach Guy Enriques, is scheduled for June 5-9 at Hilo Civic Auditorium. The camp is usually held at Kamehameha’s Koaia Gym but there are gym renovations.
The focus of the camp is ball control. For the high school player, much attention is given to the mental side of the game, with emphasis on vital life-skills and volleyball skills that lead to success. For the younger players, thre’s a focus on fundamental ball control skills while developing a love and passion for volleyball is the goal.
Camp begins at 8 a.m. for the high school player and 8:30 a.m. for the elementary and middle school player. To accommodate the working parent schedule, there is an “early bird” drop off at 7:30 a.m.

Nobu Yamauchi Memorial golf tourney
The 15th Annual Nobu Yamauchi Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on Monday, June 12, Kamehameha Day Holiday at the Hilo Municipal Golf Course with a 7 a.m. shotgun start.
Entry fee is $125, which includes green fee, cart, par three closest to the hole, team prizes, and lunch at Kim’s at Hilo Muni.
Funds raised will be used for the Nobu Yamauchi RBI organization and partial scholarship for RBI players who will be attending college. Male and Female scholarships will be awarded.
The grand prize this year will be awarded to the low net team that finishes in 15th place. Other prizes awarded will be hotel stays at the California Hotel and Casino, Kahala Hotel and Resort ocean view room valued at $955, Grand Wailea Hotel and Resort valued at $699, golf equipment, complimentary golf, restaurant certificates, and much more.

Hawaii Storm basketball clinic
The Hawaii Storm Summer Basketball Clinic, open for boys and girls grades 1-12, will be held on June 17-18 at the Panaewa Play Court facility from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.
Registration is $75 per player and each player registering by June 2 will receive a Hawaii Storm T-shirt.
The Hawaii Storm clinic is run by Mike Taylor, a former Punahou coach. Taylor won seven state championships at Punahou and was named state coach of the year five times.
