Police are seeking leads on two suspects in a May 18 robbery they describe as “armed and dangerous.”
Officers responded at 6:45 a.m. that day to the 15-1600 block of Second Avenue in Hawaiian Paradise Park after a 25-year-old Keaau man reported being assaulted by two men who stole his backpack.
The victim reportedly told police that one of the suspects punched him in the face with a pair of brass knuckles while the other suspect pointed a shotgun at him. After allegedly stealing the man’s backpack, the suspects fled in a silver 2008 Honda Accord with the license plate HKE 999. The car was reported stolen the previous day from a Paradise Ala Kai Drive home in Keaau.
Medics treated the victim at the scene for his injuries.
One suspect was identified as 25-year-old Lucas Ryan Rivera of Mountain View. He’s described as Hawaiian, 6 feet tall, 200 pounds, with black hair and hazel eyes.
The second suspect, whose identity is unknown, is described as a Caucasian man in his mid-20s to early 30s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, 180 pounds, with short light-brown hair and a medium complexion. He has a tattoo circling his neck along with a tattoo sleeve on his left arm. His image was captured on video surveillance.
Police have sought Rivera on two arrest warrants, including one to revoke his probation without bail and for two cases of unauthorized entry to a motor vehicle and previously issued a public bulletin seeking leads on his whereabouts.
According to police, officers tried to apprehend Rivera on May 1 in Hawaiian Acres, but he got into a stolen 1991 gray Honda sedan and rammed two police vehicles with the car before speeding away.
The public is advised not to approach either man.
