The public is invited to “Celebrate-Honor-Remember,” the theme of this year’s Memorial Day ceremony at 3 p.m. Monday at Kilauea Military Camp.
Located in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, the ceremony will take place on KMC’s front lawn, but will be moved to the Koa Room inside the front lobby in case of inclement weather.
Mayor Harry Kim will be keynote speaker, members of the Hawaii National Guard Youth Challenge Academy will present the colors and the children of Mountain View Elementary School will sing patriotic songs.
The national park will waive entrance fees 30 minutes before the start of the ceremony to those who want to attend.
A special buffet will be served after the ceremony, featuring kalua pork sandwich, “local style” fried chicken and chili con carne along with steamed rice, buttered corn, biscuits and honey, ice-cream sundae bar and a beverage. The cost is $18 for adults and $9 for children 6-11 years old. No reservations are required.
