At times, you have to wait for two vehicles to pass before you can proceed on your green light.
Let me share my latest experience that prompted me to write this letter.
The light turned green, and the vehicle in front of me proceeded to turn left onto Kilauea Avenue. I was to follow, but a little voice told me to wait. Luckily, I did. A vehicle ran the red light and would have T-boned me on the driver side.
This type of disrespectful, selfish and risky behavior of running a red light needs to stop!
I think education and warnings won’t deter this situation. However, I do think enforcement and a higher fine will.
You can’t put a dollar amount on a human life.

“Chlamydia infections are circulating unchecked,” says a Tribune-Herald’s front page story on May 20.
For every one case of influenza reported on the Big Island, there are eight chlamydia cases. And chlamydia is only one of nine main categories of STDs. The New York Times reports all STDs are up, year over year.
The literature reveals that one or more of the following is the result of STDs: damage to the pelvis, fallopian tubes, uterus, cervix, vulva, anus, penis, brain, nerves, eyes, heart, blood vessels, liver, bones, joints. This leads to paralysis, blindness, dementia, infertility, cancer and death. And it’s passed on from mother to baby.
Condom education and pono choices? The results are manifestly obvious. “Safe sex” is Orwellian doublespeak for Russian roulette with our precious children.
Let’s stop lying to our kids. Sexual activity is like running across an L.A. freeway. If our instruction to them is not exclusively about the danger to their well-being, to their ability to have children, to their very lives, we are directly culpable.
And this is not even to mention the psychological, emotional and, most importantly, spiritual dangers of teen sexual activity to those who should be precious to us above all else.
