Hawaii Police Department Officer Kupono Mata, a six-year police veteran, was honored as the Aloha Exchange Club Officer of the Month for March.
Mata was given the honor because of his outstanding performance as a solo patrolman and more recently as a field training officer. He serves as a “role model” for new officers by his consistent dedication to police work, investigative skill and quick reactions during evolving volatile situations that bring them to a conclusion.
Among the incidents Mata responded to included safely subduing a 72-year-old man who threatened officers, the recovery of a stolen vehicle during a domestic violence situation, the arrest of a stabbing suspect and an investigation that led to the recovery of $35,000 in stolen property.
Mata on a daily basis displays his dedication to the profession, maintaining perfect attendance for the last year and a half. His consistent actions and work ethic embodies the Police Department’s core values of integrity, professionalism, compassion, teamwork and community satisfaction.
The East Hawaii Officer of the Month award is a project of the Aloha Exchange Club of East Hawaii.
