Kalaniana‘ole Park closed for projects

The Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation announces another closure of Kuhio Kalaniana‘ole Park in Hilo from 7 a.m. -3 p.m. Saturday for community projects.

The department is working with two volunteer groups to install three new picnic tables and three new benches at the park. The park will be closed for preparation and pouring of the concrete pads on which the tables and benches will be installed.

The department appreciates the public’s assistance and understanding. For more information, contact Kevin Sakai at 961-8311.

Mulch pickup area closed Saturday

The Kealakehe (Kailua-Kona) mulch public pickup area will be closed Saturday because of a large turnout expected for a household hazardous waste collection event.

The road used for the mulch public pick-up area also is used for the household hazardous collection event.

The county apologizes for any inconvenience the closure might cause to the public. Mulch loading will resume Sunday.

For more information, contact Chris Chin-Chance at 961-8554.

VA home loan seminar offered

VA home loan limits for Hawaii county have gone up to $636,150, an increase of $10,650 for 2017, thus increasing the purchasing power for Veterans who want to purchase or refinance using their VA home loan benefit.

VA home loan specialist Tony Dias will be hosting a free seminar at the Imiloa Astronomy Center on Saturday, June 17 from 10 a.m.-noon. This Seminar is where Veterans can learn how to utilize their VA Home Loan benefit to purchase or re-finance a home up to $636,150 with no money down and no private mortgage insurance or have more than one VA Loan at a time.

It also addresses how Veterans can re-finance into a VA Home Loan from other loan programs to lower their monthly payments. Space is limited so you are encouraged to register for the seminar by calling 436-5791. Refreshments and snacks will be served.

The Imiloa Astronomy Center is located at 600 Imiloa Place, Hilo.
