The first of three Hawaii Island Palm Society summer tours of private palm gardens is scheduled for June 17 in Leilani Estates.

The 2-acre garden has more than 70 species of palms along with varieties of vireyas, orchids, ti, heliconia, hibiscus and other tropicals. The tour begins at 1 p.m.

HIPS invites nonmembers to experience these gardens along with our members. There is a $10 per person fee to attend, or people can join the palm society for $15 for two adults. Monday is the last day for nonmembers to register.
