Hawaiian Farmers Market, in coordination with the Keaukaha Pana‘ewa Farmers Association, is offering free hydroponic classes from 9 a.m.-noon every Saturday for six weeks beginning July 8 at the KPFA market on Railroad Avenue across from Home Depot.
The public is invited to register for the upcoming classes at 9 a.m. Saturday and July 1 at the KPFA market. Space is limited.
The “Basic Certificate in Family and Small-Scale Commercial Hydroponic Vegetable Production” hydroponic classes are conducted by William S. Sakai, professor at the University of Hawaii at Hilo College of Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resource Management.
“We at KPFA want to gratefully acknowledge and thank Dr. Sakai’s professional expertise and time dedicated to serving the community in teaching countless numbers of people to become self-sustaining through hydroponic production of safe food for our tables,” said association president Howard Pe‘a. “Please join us in learning to become advocates of healthy eating and sustainable lifestyles.”
The Keaukaha-Pana‘ewa Farmers Association strives to work together as a growing community in gaining skills and knowledge which will contribute to a year-round productive harvest through hydroponic practices, Pe‘a said.
