John William Speight Jr., 69, of Pahoa died May 31 at home. Born in New York, he was a former probation officer for Los Angeles County and member of Center for Spiritual Living. Teruyuki “Teru” Yoshida, 89, of Hilo died June 5 at home. Born in Papaikou, he was a retired land surveyor for the state Department of Transportation and member of Papaikou Hongwanji Mission, orchid hobbyist and a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean War.
