The wind farm started operating in September 2016 and generates 3.3 megawatts of electricity for a Department of Water Supply well.

The county received the honorable mention for the National Climate Protection Award along with Cleveland; Columbia, S.C.; and Cagus, Puerto Rico, in the large city category.

The category includes municipalities with more than 100,000 population. Long Beach, Calif., won first place.
