Police have identified a fisherman who disappeared Monday evening after falling off a cliff into the ocean near Kaalualu in Ka‘u as 48-year-old Shane Romena of Ocean View.
Police have identified a fisherman who disappeared Monday evening after falling off a cliff into the ocean near Kaalualu in Ka‘u as 48-year-old Shane Romena of Ocean View.
Police say Romena was fishing with his 10-year-old grandson and fell while trying to fill a cooler with ocean water for live bait.
The grandson lost sight of his grandfather about 100 feet offshore. He immediately called 911 and a search was launched, including both county helicopters.
The search for Romena continued yesterday and is ongoing today.
Police do not suspect foul play. A public accident investigation has been initiated.
