Press takes the bait

Press takes the bait

When is the press going to give up the red-herring bait of Mr. Twitterbrain’s tweets?

The most recent one about the MSNBC staffers lowered the bar to an unbelievable level, and comments were appropriately made. However, trying to teach manners to this man in the White House, a proven bully and liar, is a lost cause.

When these ridiculous tweets come out, that creates outrage on all sides; I wonder what actually happened that needs real attention from the press?

The announced President Donald Trump agenda to dismantle what is left of our tattered democracy continues to work, and the press isn’t paying much attention. They’re too busy reacting in the Twittersphere.

Risky ordering?

Opposite of the Hilo Public Library are several eateries often patronized by the students of schools in the nearby areas.

Like many eateries, upon placing your order, the cashier will ask for your name, and when your order is ready to pick up, your name will be called out.

Although this system gets a faster response by the customer — as opposed to calling out your order number, which is printed upon the receipt — calling someone’s name aloud can backfire.

Case in point: Youths who have their name called out opens the door to possible “predators,” who might be in the same area. A person with bad intentions might go up to one of these youths, call them by name, claiming they know their parents, and then try to entice them by offering to take the youth home, or fabricating a story that a relative has encountered an emergency and is at a hospital and offering to take them there.

Might I suggest that any establishments that use the name system, choose to use a numbering system, as many places already do. Adults can be just as venerable as well.
