WHS student government honored

For the third consecutive year, Waiakea High School’s Student Government Association was awarded a National Gold Council of Excellence Award by the National Association of Student Councils.

The goal of NASC is to help all student councils become more effective organizations. Waiakea was among seven public high schools statewide to receive the honor.

To meet the requirements for the Excellence Award, a student council must meet a variety of criteria which includes: a written constitution, regular meetings, democratic election process and membership in NASC.

In addition, council members must participate in leadership training, service projects, spirit activities, goal setting, financial planning and active participation in student council associations.

“We worked extremely hard to continue the tradition of excellence set forth by the student councils before us,” said SGA president Kiani Nishimoto.
