Police say a 22-year-old Hilo woman died following a vehicle wreck today.
The woman, whose name is being withheld pending notification of family, was in a 2004 Honda sedan that ran off the roadway on Highway 19 near Nahala Street. The single-car wreck was reported at 5:41 a.m.
She was pronounced dead at 7:26 a.m. at Hilo Medical Center. Police didn’t say if anyone else was in the vehicle, which was travelling northbound.
Police believe that speed was a factor in this crash.
This is the 21st traffic fatality this year compared with 12 at this time last year.
