Founded in 1952, Hilo Toastmasters empowers members to hone their speaking and leadership skills. A Toastmaster’s meeting is a learn-by-doing workshop in which members evaluate each other’s presentations without any instructor present. This feedback process is a key part of the program’s success.

Members also give impromptu talks about assigned topics, conduct meetings and develop skills related to timekeeping, grammar and parliamentary procedure.

Hilo Toastmasters Club is part of Toastmasters International, a world leader in communication and leadership development.

Membership is 345,000 strong in 15,900 clubs in 142 countries around the world. There are 65 clubs in the state, including five on Hawaii Island.
