Freddie Beyer Berengue, 67, of Kailua-Kona died June 16 at home. Born in Honolulu, he owned Sunset Flooring and paddled for Kai ‘Ehitu, Kai ‘Opua and Keauhou canoe clubs. Celebration of life 9 a.m. Saturday (July 29) at the Honokohau Harbor canoe halau in Kailua-Kona. Survived by wife, Kande Berengue of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Michele Lohry of Windsor, Colo.; sons, Steven (Siulin) Berengue of Kailua-Kona, Shane (Linda) Berengue of Ellijay, Ga., and Mitchell Berengue of Ft. Collins, Colo.; brother, Gale Berengue of Kailua, Oahu; sisters, Holly Young of Honolulu, and Frances (Lambert) Lui-Kwan of Pearl City, Oahu; three grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Robert “Bobby” George Gomes, Sr., 81, of Hilo, formerly of Pahala, died July 1 at home. Born in Kona, he was a retired police sergeant, retired reserve police officer, county police commissioner and member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Holy Rosary Choir, and Hula Halau ‘O Mahealani. Davies &Co., former scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts Troop 19–Waiakea Settlement and member of the Hilo Higashi Hongwanji Mission and Kyodan.
