Hawaii Photo Shooters member Lee Schechtman will be the featured speaker during the club’s next meeting at 6 p.m. Aug. 10 in the break room of the Komohana Research and Extension Center in Hilo.
Schechtman will talk about the exposure triangle: aperture setting (F/stop), shutter speed and sensitivity to light, or ISO.
In photography, a properly exposed image is obtained by having the proper amount of light hit the recording medium (sensor in digital or film in analog photography). Proper use of the exposure triangle allows the photographer to select the proper exposure in regard to other factors important to producing the desired image.
These other factors can include: depth of field, stopping motion, showing motion (blur), signal noise (in digital) or grain (for film).
In his picture titled “Sriracha and Tzatziki” taken at the Panaewa Rainforest Zoo, Schechtman says he exposed the image properly, stopping the action of the tigers in the midst of play, without much blurring. The public is invited to attend free of charge and to bring their digital cameras along with manuals to learn how to take control of their cameras and move beyond the automatic setting.
