49-year-old Mountain View man has been charged in connection with a shooting that left three men injured, one critically, Sunday evening near the Pohoiki boat ramp in lower Puna.

Police Lt. Miles Chong of the Hilo Criminal Investigations Section said Rodney Wilbur Sr. was charged at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday with attempted second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a separate felony, prohibited possession of a firearm and illegally carrying a pistol.

His bail is set at $275,000 bail and his initial court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, although it will be set for a later date should Wilbur post bail.

The other suspect in the shooting, 36-year-old Tyson Keola Lewi, remains in custody. Originally booked on suspicion of first-degree assault, he is now booked on suspicion of attempted second-degree murder.

Police have until 3 p.m. Wednesday to charge Lewi or they are required by law release him from custody pending further investigation.

One victim, a 35-year-old man from Pahoa man was taken to The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu in critical condition. The other two, Mountain View men ages 25 and 27, are reportedly in stable condition in Hilo Medical Center.
