HONOLULU (AP) — The troubled Honolulu rail project will have a permanent executive director.
Andrew Robbins will be the project’s new leader starting in September, the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation announced Monday.
Robbins will earn a base salary of $317,000 per year plus housing and transportation money.
Robbins, 59, comes from Canadian-based Bombardier Transportation and replaces Dan Grabauskas, who stepped down in August 2016.
Robbins has experience in public passenger rail equipment, infrastructure, construction management and airport transit, according to the project board. Robbins also is a licensed professional engineer in Hawaii.
Body found in California could be Hawaii man
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Authorities think the body of a Hawaii man who went missing last year in Lake Tahoe while paddle boarding with football teammates from the University of Nevada at Reno was found.
The Placer County Sheriff’s Office states a body found Monday is thought to be 20-year-old Marc Ma.
Ma was about 700 yards off the lake’s west shore with Wolf Pack teammates when he went missing June 10, 2016.
The body was found near where Ma was reported missing.
Ma graduated from Iolani School in Honolulu.
8 inmates confirmed to have mumps
HONOLULU (AP) — The state Department of Public Safety announced that eight inmates at Oahu Community Correctional Center have mumps.
The first case was confirmed July 12.
People who have come in contact with the infected inmates have been immunized and no staff members have reported contracting the illness.
