Hawaii County awarded a total of $25,000 for Bay Clinic’s breast cancer prevention program, diabetes self-management education and IT updates for its dental program.
Bay Clinic’s women’s health and diabetes self-management education programs are accessible by all regardless of income level or insurance status. Health screenings are important because they can reveal risk factors, behavioral and health conditions that put people at risk for diseases.
“Breast cancer may have no symptoms. For this reason, it’s recommended that women over the age of 40 get an annual mammogram,” said Dr. Chrissy Capati, Bay Clinic medical director. “Caught early, breast cancer is treatable.”
The goal of the diabetes program is to provide individuals with diabetes and their families with the tools to take control of diabetes, safely manage the disease and prevent serious complications. Each six-class DSME session focuses on diabetes education centered around the cornerstones of diabetes self-management, including blood sugar monitoring, medical nutritional therapy and exercise.
