Kathe Hildegard Baptista, 90, of Kailua-Kona died July 19 at Hospice of Kona Nakamaru Hale in Holualoa. Born Kutzen, Germany, she was a retired registered nurse and member of Kona Coast Church of the Nazarene. Services held. Survived by niece, Brigitte Schulze, and family in Germany. Jeffrey M. Melrose, 65, of Hilo died July 25 at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Care Center. Raised in Makawao, Maui, he was a land manager and planner for large land owners, including Kamehameha Schools and Amfac Hawaii, owner of the firm Island Planning, geography lecturer at University of Hawaii at Hilo, authored Statewide Agriculture Land Use Baseline 2015 and was the past president of Kuikahi Mediation Center, Hilo Downtown Improvement Association, and Hawaii Island Chamber Of Commerce. Celebration of life at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, at the Volcano Art Center Niaulani Campus. Online condolences: homelanimemorialpark.com. Phillip Eugene Paranial, 65, of Hilo died July 14 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was an executive chef for the Hilo Hawaiian and Naniloa hotels and taught culinary arts at Hawaii Community College.
