A Hawaiian Airlines plane carrying more than 250 passengers from Kauai to Los Angeles on Friday was diverted to Hilo International Airport after smoke was reported in the cockpit.
The Boeing 767 was two hours into its five-hour flight when the problem was reported. At 8:21 p.m., the Hawaii County Fire Department was alerted to the incoming flight and responded with six engines, three medic units, three other support vehicles and 25 personnel.
Just after 8:30 p.m., the plane landed safely and taxied to the terminal without further incident.
The cause of the smoke is still under investigation.
