Puna Toastmasters will celebrate becoming a chartered Toastmasters club with a gala charter party from noon-3 p.m. Saturday at the Eagles Club in Keaau.
“Puna Toastmasters is fast gaining a reputation for stepping outside the box,” said Kathy Emery, club co-sponsor and VP of education.
“We like to incorporate a lot of comedy and improv into our meetings. We are not exactly the Toastmasters your parents joined, but lean more toward the offbeat spirit of creativity and fun that ‘Punatics’ are known for.”
“We’ve come a long way since Kathy and I started the club in 2015,” added co-sponsor and treasurer Tracy Hedgecock.
“We are proud that our members have earned several awards and contest trophies in the past two years.”
The charter party will open with music by the Kinder Gentler Trio followed by a hula by Madie Green. After a brief award presentation, two club members will give comedic speeches and Hedgecock will call on members of the audience to participate in several classic improv exercises.
Puna Toastmasters welcomes new members and meets regularly at the Eagle’s Club in Keaau and the Nanawale Longhouse. For more information, call 982-8518 or visit www.PunaToastmasters.com.
