Lace up and Walk to End Alzheimer’s

There are more than 3,000 community members on Hawaii Island suffering from some form of dementia and many more who exhibit increasing forgetfulness. There is a committee of people working hard to make a difference for them by organizing the Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Hilo and Kona.

This year’s Alzheimer’s Association walks will take place Sept. 16 at Lili‘uokalani Gardens and Oct. 7 at Old Kona Airport Park. Registration for both walks is from 7-8 a.m. The walks start at 8.

Teams of walkers from churches, agencies, businesses, neighborhoods and comprised of family members are encouraged to participate.

The Alzheimer’s Association welcomes walkers to walk in memory of those who have suffered from dementia. Who in our community has not been touched by someone who has suffered from some form of dementia or confusion?

Chris Ridley, Alzheimer’s Association program coordinator for Hawaii Island, will walk in memory of her father.
