Police arrested two men in connection with high-end jewelry reported stolen in a July 31 burglary at a Waimea home.
An investigation by Kona police detectives, assisted by the FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force and the Honolulu Police Department, led to the Aug. 11 arrest of Stryder W. Scalf, a 40-year-old Kailua-Kona man. He was charged with second-degree theft for allegedly trying to sell a gold piece taken during the burglary on the internet, and numerous drug offenses.
Scalf is in custody at Hawaii Community Correctional Center in lieu of $82,000 bail and he’s set for arraignment Friday in Kona Circuit Court.
Detectives also arrested 25-year-old Randen Tabac of Honokaa on Tuesday at a Laupahoehoe home and charged him with first-degree theft for allegedly being in possession of numerous stolen items from the burglary.
Court records indicate Tabac’s bail was set at $1 million and he remains in custody at Hawaii Community Correctional Center, with a preliminary hearing set for Monday in Kona District Court.
