Two occupants of a Kanoelani Street home in Hilo escaped uninjured after a fire broke out in a bedroom of the single-story structure early Friday evening.

According to a written Hawaii Fire Department statement, six units responded to the 5:14 p.m. alarm with the first unit arriving five minutes later. The fire was reported under control at 5:42 p.m. and extinguished at 6:24 p.m.

The cause of the fire, which was confined to the bedroom, is under investigation. Damages are yet to be determined.

The Red Cross is providing assistance to the home’s occupants.
