Big Island artists invited to forum

Big Island artists invited to forum

The Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, in collaboration with Pacific Policy Research Center, invites Big Island artists to attend the 2019-2023 Strategic Planning Listening Session from 10 a.m.-noon Sept. 16 at Wailoa Center, 200 Piopio St. in Hilo.

The purpose of the session is to collect broad, public input on how the SFCA should prioritize its time, efforts and resources to help arts and culture flourish in Hawaii.

Panelists will welcome input on the kinds of programs, services, resources and opportunities people would like to see SFCA provide in the community and statewide.

Refreshments will be provided.

For more information, contact Mary Lee of PPRC at marylee@pprchawaii.org or 223-7391.

Bank organizes Harvey relief fund

First Hawaiian Bank announced the establishment of the Aloha Relief for Harvey Fund to assist the American Red Cross in its efforts to help the many thousands of residents who were devastated by Hurricane Harvey in August.

First Hawaiian Bank has donated the first $25,000 to the fund and its branches will serve as community donation collection points. All contributions to the Aloha Relief for Harvey Fund will be donated to the American National Red Cross to assist the Harvey relief efforts, Bob Harrison, First Hawaiian Bank chairman and chief executive officer, announced Thursday.

Those wanting to contribute to the Aloha Relief for Harvey Fund can do so at any First Hawaiian Bank branch in Hawaii, Guam and Saipan through Sept. 30.

HMSA names regional director

To expand its service to communities on Hawaii Island, Kauai, Maui, Lanai and Molokai, the Hawaii Medical Service Association named Karey Kapoi as its neighbor island regional director.

One of Kapoi’s primary responsibilities is expanding HMSA’s community partnerships on the neighbor islands and supporting HMSA teams in Hilo, Kailua-Kona, Kahului and Lihue.

“HMSA provides affordable access to the best doctors and hospitals. That’s earned the company the respect of communities throughout the state,” Kapoi said.

“My job is to build on that foundation and help make new connections in the community that will benefit our members, employers, and providers.”

Kapoi is a former assistant administrator and chief communications officer of the Maui region of Hawaii Health Systems Corp.
