Hawaii Electric Light Co. said about 2,400 customers in the Hilo area experienced a brief power outage Thursday morning because of a “momentary trip” in one of its lines.
The outage occurred just after 9 a.m. and lasted about 5 minutes, HELCO spokeswoman Kristen Okinaka said. She said HELCO is investigating the exact cause of the trip.
“Usually what happens is there’s a fault on the line and it could be something as simple as a tree brushing the line or something more serious like an automobile accident (in which a vehicle) hits a pole,” Okinaka said.
