The North American Japanese Garden Association is coming to Hilo for a regional conference Thursday through Saturday at Lili‘uokalani Gardens.
Join experts Fred Nonaka, Craig Kadooka, Ken Brown, Takuhiro Yamada and others for three days of hands-on instruction, workshops, panels, networking and garden tours with NAJGA members and Friends of Lili‘uokalani Gardens.
Thursday’s schedule includes an optional add-on tour of Hilo gardens with an emphasis on tsunami zones. Workshops scheduled for Friday are stone setting, small-tree pruning and old azalea bush renewal, and stone lantern placement.
A golden-hour tour of the gardens will be offered by local professional photographers with tips on landscape photographs and significant viewpoints within Lili‘uokalani Gardens.
Saturday starts with optional participation in the Alzheimer’s Walk in Lili‘uokalani Gardens followed by a “Health in the Gardens” panel presentation. Other panels include “What Grows Here,” recently published books and the history of Lili‘uokalani Gardens.
The conference concludes Saturday afternoon with a tour of Volcano gardens, dinner at Volcano House and an after-dark tour of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
