The nonprofit Ku‘ikahi Mediation Center is hosting a free talk from noon-1 p.m. Sept. 21 as part of its monthly “Finding Solutions, Growing Peace” Brown Bag Lunch Series at the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney, 655 Kilauea Ave. in Hilo.

This month’s speaker is Joan Shafer on the topic “The Power of Positivity: How to Affect Optimal Performance for Yourself and Others.”

“Do you want to optimize performance and lead a fulfilled life? The ‘Power of Positivity’ is more than just ‘feeling good’ or saying nice things to others,” Shafer said. “People and teams who actively use different approaches that increase positivity have moved into sustained states of flourishing and thriving.”

In this talk, learn what positivity is, its benefits and, most importantly, how to integrate it into your life professionally and personally.

Shafer is a recognized specialist on “employee recognition” — a topic she has researched and working with organizations on for the past 19 years. She is a renowned speaker on recognition and she trains management teams how to strengthen their capability with this.

Ku‘ikahi’s Brown Bag Lunch Series is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lunch, enjoy an informal and educational talk-story session and meet others interested in “Finding Solutions, Growing Peace.”

The lunch-and-learn series talks on the third Thursday of each month are made possible in part to funding from the Atherton Family Foundation.
