Roland Myles Vieira Sr., 80, of Kailua-Kona died Aug. 9 in Vacaville, Calif. Born in Hilo, he was a retired high school teacher and coach, former deputy sheriff and police officer in Los Altos, Calif., U.S. Army Korean War veteran and commander of Chapter 279, Korean War Veterans. Memorial service and inurnment at noon Friday (Sept. 22) at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery. Casual attire. Survived by wife, Hildi Vieira of Kailua-Kona; son, Roland Vieira Jr. of Seattle; daughter, Sherry Anne (Charles) Lee of Napa, Calif.; sister, Edwina Yamura of Hawi; seven grandchildren. Charles “CJ” John Wood, 78, of Kailua-Kona died Sept. 14 at home. Born in San Diego, he was a retired biology technician for Environmental and Preventive Medical Unit 6 and U.S. Navy veteran who served as a hospital corpsman with the U.S. Marine Corps.
