Half a hundred, give or take a few, was more than enough for Ka’u this time.

Zachary Kai ran for 324 yards and three touchdowns Saturday in Kapaau, carrying the Trojans to a 48-0 victory against Kohala in a BIIF eight-man football game.

According to Ka’u statistics, Kai ran 40 times, the highlight being an 81-yard touchdown run.

Ka’u (2-2, 2-1) was coming off a 90-58 loss at Lanai, but its defense enjoyed a turnabout as the Trojans beat the Cowboys (0-4, 0-3) on the road for the second time in three weeks.

Isaiah Pilanca-Emmsley added two more scores, including a 73-yard interception return. The freshman found the end zone five times against Lanai.

Janslae Badua’s 18-yard touchdown run in the second helped Ka’u take a 40-0 lead into halftime.

By then, the Trojans could start thinking about their game Thursday at Keaau against first-place Pahoa.
