Global HOPE is presenting a timely and important talk about climate change by philosophy professor Tim Freeman at 7 p.m. Thursday at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.
“We are seeing unprecedented storms, hurricanes, fires raging throughout the West, coral reefs dying and ocean levels rising throughout the globe,” said Global HOPE member Noelie Rodriguez, one of the presentation’s organizers. “The overwhelming scientific evidence is that we are seeing the effects of climate change caused by the burning of fossil fuels.
“These fuels powered our modern industrial civilization. Now that civilization — and the environment it depends upon — are in jeopardy.”
Some scientists warn that time is running out. They fear an impending tipping point beyond which climate change becomes irreversible.
Freeman has written papers and given presentations in Hawaii, on the mainland and abroad on confronting the problem of climate change. In his talk, he proposes some innovative solutions.
The presentation takes place in UCB 100 and is free and open to the public.
