Shooting range short on staff

The Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation announced the temporary closure of the Trap &Skeet Range at 1010 Leilani St. in Hilo because of a staffing shortage.

The facility will be closed starting Oct. 11 and reopen from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 14.

Normal hours for the facility are noon-4 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Hilo class of ‘67 planning reunion

The Hilo High School class of 1967 50-year reunion events registration form deadline is approaching.

Class members have until Oct. 6 to register for activities in Kona during the weekend of Oct. 21-22 and other activities throughout the week, with closing events in Hilo during the weekend of Oct. 28-29.

Spouses and/or guests are welcome to attend the events with graduates.

Ballroom dance classes offered

Try something new this fall by enrolling in Wednesday night dance classes with the Big Island Ballroom Dance Club.

The classes, fox trot, rumba and West Coast swing II, begin Oct. 4 at the Church of the Holy Cross, 440 W. Lanikaula St., Hilo.

Annual membership for the fall session is $7.50. The cost for each 10-week class is $6. Registration begins at 6:30 p.m. and classes start at 7 p.m.

The club will host its Christmas Dance on Dec. 2 at Aunty Sally’s Luau Hale.

Hospital welcomes orthopedic surgeon

North Hawaii Community Hospital welcomes Dr. Darrin Kuczynski, board certified orthopedic surgeon, to the team at North Hawaii Health &Wellness.

Kuczynski received his medical degree from Northeastern Ohio Medical University and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Summa Health Systems in Akron, Ohio. In addition, he completed a fellowship in sports medicine/arthroscopy at the University of Oklahoma.

Kuczynski has 20 years of private practice experience in general orthopedics and sports medicine.
