• Kaidden Kelly of Hilo was awarded a master of science degree in physician assistant studies from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine during its graduate programs commencement ceremony July 31 at the Kimmel Center for Performing Arts in Philadelphia.

Kelly is the son of Leslie Kelly Sr. and Roxanne Gomes of Hilo. He earned a bachelor of science degree in health studies from Portland State University in 2013.
• Jenna Murayama of Hilo, a student at Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Florham Campus in Madison, N.J., graduated in May with a BA in criminology, sociology and psychology. She also was named to the honors list for the spring 2017 semester.
• Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Troy, N.Y.) student-athlete Mailani Neal of Kailua-Kona was selected as a captain of the women’s tennis team for the 2017-18 season.
Neal, an applied physics major, is a Hawaii Preparatory Academy graduate.
• Lopaka O’Connor of Papaikou was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2017 semester at Washington University in St. Louis. O’Connor is enrolled in the university’s College of Arts and Sciences.
• Ayushi Purell of Waimea started coursework at Fort Lewis College (Durango, Colo.) in August as a first-time freshman. Purell’s major is psychology.
