A Hilo legislator who underwent surgery Sept. 27 to remove a cancerous testicle was told Tuesday the surgery was successful.
State Rep. Chris Todd said Tuesday he was told by his doctor tests showed no signs the cancer had spread beyond the left testicle, which was removed.
Todd, 29, said there is about a 15 percent chance the cancer will return and will require follow-up treatment.
According to the American Cancer Society, the five-year survival rate for localized testicular cancer is 99 percent.
Todd, who also serves as offensive coordinator for the Hilo High School varsity football team, is back to coaching as well.
