Sheng-Ming Cheng, 79, of Hilo, formerly of Taiwan, died Oct. 2 in Honolulu. Born in Taiwan, he and was a retired professor of civil engineering at Won-Nung Technology University in Taiwan. Charles Richard Trommer, 94, of Ninole, died Oct. 2 at home. Born in New York City, he was a professor of chemistry and horticulture at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, U.S. Air Force World War II veteran, and member of Hawaii Concert Society, Viria Society, Orchid Society, Big Island Association of Nurserymen, Water Garden Society, Bamboo Society, Horticulture Society, Palm Society, and Navy League. Visitation 9-10:30 a.m. Friday (Oct. 13) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No.2. No monetary gifts.
