Saddle Road closed due to traffic accident

A long stretch of the Daniel K. Inouye Highway/Saddle Road is closed in both directions due to a traffic collision, police reported at about 9:30 a.m. today.

Motorists will be able to drive up to the 9-mile marker above Hilo, and up to the Waiki‘i entrance above Waimea.

Police advised motorists to use alternate routes.

Motorists also are advised to tune into Civil Defense updates to check on the status of the closure.
